Slot Terms Glossary

Plain-language definitions of slot terms used on this site, with concrete examples from Bigger Bass Bonanza where relevant.

Rtp
Return to Player. The long-run percentage of total bets a slot pays back to players, averaged over millions of spins. Bigger Bass Bonanza ships at 96.71% by default, with 95.67% and 94.62% as alternate versions casinos can deploy. Means the house edge is 3.29% on the default version. Doesn't predict your session — predicts the average across millions of sessions.
Volatility
How spread out the wins are. Low volatility = small frequent wins. High volatility = mostly losses with occasional big hits. Bigger Bass Bonanza is 5/5 (very high). Translation: long stretches of nothing punctuated by Free Spins triggers that may pay 50× or 800× depending on multiplier luck.
Scatter
Symbol that pays regardless of payline position. In Bigger Bass Bonanza the scatter is the Hooked Bass — 3+ anywhere on the reels triggers Free Spins (10/15/20 spins for 3/4/5 scatters). Scatters here don't pay coin wins, only feature triggers.
Wild
Symbol that substitutes for other paying symbols. In Bigger Bass Bonanza the Wild is the Fisherman, and crucially it ONLY appears during Free Spins. In base game there is no Wild. During Free Spins each Wild collects all visible MONEY symbol values and counts toward the retrigger meter.
Multiplier
Number that multiplies a win. Bigger Bass Bonanza has a multiplier ladder during Free Spins: 2× after first retrigger, 3× after second, 10× after third. Applies to MONEY symbol collections only — line wins are unaffected.
Free Spins
Bonus round of automatic spins where the bet doesn't change. Bigger Bass Bonanza awards 10/15/20 free spins for 3/4/5 scatters. The Fisherman Wild only appears during Free Spins, which is when the slot does most of its paying.
Bonus Buy
Optional purchase to instantly trigger Free Spins, usually costing 50×-100× stake. Bigger Bass Bonanza HAS NO Bonus Buy. You wait for the natural trigger or you don't play it. Other slots in the Big Bass family (1000, Splash) do offer buy options.
Ante Bet
Optional side bet (typically +50% stake) that boosts scatter frequency, increasing trigger chance for Free Spins. Bigger Bass Bonanza HAS NO Ante Bet. Big Bass Bonanza 1000 does.
Hit Rate
Percentage of spins that produce any winning combination. Bigger Bass Bonanza is 12.11% — about 1 winning spin per 8.26 spins. Most of those wins are below 1× stake.
Paylines
Defined patterns across the reels where matching symbols pay. Bigger Bass Bonanza has 12 fixed paylines (the original had 10). All paylines are always active — you can't toggle them. Wins pay left-to-right starting from reel 1.
Grid
Layout of reels and rows. Bigger Bass Bonanza is 5×4 — 5 reels, 4 rows. Original Big Bass Bonanza is 5×3.
Max Win
Hard cap on what one round can pay. Bigger Bass Bonanza caps at 4,000× total stake. Hit it during Free Spins and the round ends immediately, paying out the cap.
Money Symbol
Special symbol that lands with a random cash value attached. Bigger Bass Bonanza's MONEY symbols are fish — values range from 2× to 4,000× stake. They don't pay anything in base game. During Free Spins, the Fisherman Wild collects their values.
Retrigger
When the bonus extends itself by adding more spins. Bigger Bass Bonanza retriggers every 4th Wild collected — adds 10 spins and bumps the multiplier. Capped at 3 retriggers per bonus.
High Volatility
Wins are infrequent but can be large. Bigger Bass Bonanza scores 5/5 on volatility — among the swingiest slots Pragmatic Play makes. Plan bankroll accordingly.
Autoplay
Setting that runs a chosen number of spins automatically. Bigger Bass Bonanza supports up to 1,000 auto spins outside the UK, with optional loss/win limits. UK regulation reduces this.
